Mainstream TV

and become annoying. Lastly, some music videos may not be aired on TV because they are too explicit and inappropriate and may need to have a clean version made, e.g. Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.
Music Channels
Music Channels are basically TV channels that broadcasts a variety of different music videos. Certain channels show different music genres. There are a number of music channels and they still have a high viewing count. The most popular music channels are MTV, Kiss, The Box and VIVA. They broadcast music that is quite high viewed and that have recently been produced. This is positive for the artist because watching music on TV is very easy to do so it is simple for the video to become popular; higher popularity equals higher ratings. A negative to music channels would likely be that technology has evolved, nowadays people have adapted to their mobile phones and you can watch music videos when your out and about rather than only being able to watch them whilst at home. Another positive could be that it's been aired on a television itself. As the years have passed, televisions have been getting bigger and better by competing companies e.g. BUSH, Toshiba, Samsung, e.t.c. they have been increasing the size of televisions and improving the quality of the sound and picture of it, by doing this, the video can look better and sound better also promoting the artist and also they're accessories which is benifical for the artist e.g. the picture above shows beats speaker by dr. dre in Miley Cyrus video We Can't Stop. Also, if a viewer enjoyed the video, they can simple rewind it from the start or record it now, allowing the viewer to see it as many times as they wish. Another negative of music channels of the same genre play the top charts at the same time, so if a viewer doesn't enjoy a certain song or the general top charts, they won't watch the channel and that could loose viewers.
Direct CD/Special Edition CD/DVD Releases

After the death of Michael Jackson, CD's were made and old CD's were produced and put on ther shelves, making very high sales. |
CDs are a disc that is only audible and contains a list of songs made by a specific artist/band. Some CDs contain a mix of different songs by different artists. DVDs are also a disc but have a film, clip or video on it that a person can watch as many times as they would like. They are still popular and still sell worldwide very well; this alone is a positive for the artist both in their wealth and also their title/name/popularity. Artists are rated by their talent (obviously) and also how many albums/singles sold worldwide which then determines their popularity. A positive impact for CDs/DVDs would be that you can choose from hundreds of different types of them, depending on what you like and your taste. Also when a famous artist dies like Michael Jackson for example then CD's are produced as a memory of them which is a positive impact on the industry and the audience because they can listen to the artist's greatest hits. A common negative impact for CDs/DVDs would be that technology has evolved and music is mainly listened on radios, phones and iPods. Also CDs/DVDs are fragile, they can scratch and break easily which is very aggravating for most listeners/viewers, so they can loose interest and use another form of technology, like for example, streaming. Streaming is very popular in this day and age and is free so CD sales reduce and less profit is made for the artist and company.
Streaming Websites

Streaming Websites are webcasts of clips, videos and films. The most common streaming websites are YouTube, Vimeo, Project Free TV and hulu. They are highly rated and extremely popular. Most streaming websites are free which is beneficial for the viewer because they can view as many clips or videos as they wish without needing to pay, which is a positive impact. Another positive for this output would be that these websites are mainly used to watch/listen to music or convert it for downloading. They are updated frequently which means recent songs or videos will be availible to watch or to share with friends, this is benifical for the artist because by higher views means that the artist/band will become more popular and word of mouth increases the knowledge of the artist/song/music video. A negative impact of streaming websites are that they buffer and can be quite frustrating, age restriction, playback issues if the viewer wanted to watch it again and also it can give your computer viruses.

Beyonce's Website |
Artist's websites are a webpage based entirely on the artist. The website contains a small biography of the artist, a list of their songs ever produced, possibly some clips of them performing and preview of a music video and if they have any concerts coming up..The point of a website based on the artist is to promote them and make them self well known. This is beneficial for the artist because when the website is put on the internet, it will be advertised by the artist to fans and the public so they can view it thus making the website popular and then the artist. Artist websites are promotional to new music videos published, more or tell telling the public to view it, also being beneficial to the artist because their song is getting higher ratings. A positive output for artist's websites are that they are quite popular and highly rated. The public would know more about the artist and upcoming events and also it is easy to access. The negatives to artist's websites are that during the music video, ads will pop up for more promotion, some people could not be able to access the computer and lastly it may cost money.

Legal downloading site |
Downloading music/ music videos is extremely common and very popular both legal and illegal. The public download legally to get music / music videos onto their phones, iPods, laptops, e.t.c. Most legal downloads are not free but are very quick to download. Illegal downloads are mainly free but take a while to do and hard to search for because well they're illegal. Downloading isn't very beneficial for the artist but the artist is known and promotes the music video, also free, illegal downlaoding isn't profitable in any eay for the artist because theyre not making money out of it. The pros of downloading are that it barely uses up on memory, its easy access (free), reliable, you can download different qualities of the music videos to enjoy it more and it's easy to find what you want to download. The cons of downloading are that it could cost money, illegal downloading could result in bad quality of the music video, it could give your computer viruses, you're computer could be tracked, may have cutouts or ads in the video due to result of bad download. Downloading illegally has a strong impact on Music Channels because there isn't a need to watch them anymore when you can listen to whatever you want on new technology.
